Description
This book is my attempt to change that The Silent Echo is about listening to the voices that have too often been ignored, misunderstood, or silenced. It’s about the characters who have been written out of the story, or whose stories have been told by others in ways that don’t fully capture their experiences. From ancient myths to contemporary novels, from postcolonial narratives to children’s books, this book explores how disability has been represented in literature across different times and cultures. Some of these stories get it right, offering honest and thoughtful portrayals. Others, even when well-intentioned, fall into familiar stereotypes. And some, perhaps unknowingly, reinforce the idea that disability is something to be pitied or ‘overcome’ rather than simply accepted as one of many ways to exist in the world.
